Faith or Bust: India

We're a group of guys tired of being told to be normal. We can't be normal, we're Christians. And we're called to live our faith out loud. WE're going to live our lives Faith or Bust.

This summer we're heading to India to serve the poor and dying!

I'm the bacon... what are you?

So... after having found out I'm the type of person to be bacon (for breakfast, are you the bacon or the eggs, the pig is committed, the chicken is just involved)... I'm bacon again...

I can't live life without giving it my all... so I've done it again.

I'm going to Europe for a month on pilgrimage... a month to find out how much the Holy Family cares about me. Some of you may recall that I've been having a crisis of faith lately... so this may seem odd, but like I said I'm the pig. I've got to give it all to find out.

And I'm giving it all to find my Mommy... Mary, if you're in Europe, I'm coming to find you.

I can't live the normal life... I dream.

Call this the first Faith or Bust pilgrimage...

"[Faith or Bust is] about living your life as if every moment was your last. As if you were bearing the magnificent cross of Christ.

Its about denying yourself, picking up your cross and following (Lk 9:23).

There will be falls, and none of us are saints yet, but we commit to picking our selves up with the grace of Christ, and being perfect as He is perfect (Mt 5:48).

We are called to be saints. And we will answer.

"Remember, Christ is calling you; the Church needs you; the Pope believes in you and he expects great things of you." John Paul the Great"

FAITH OR BUST 2007 IS A LEAVEN!

So what's up with Faith or Bust?

Well... Faith or Bust 2007 is in the planning stages... Which means I'm not sure what all is going to happen or how yet to carry it all out. I do know that it's going to happen, and I'm going to plan a few meetings for the NYC area soon... I just need to figure out who's interested and what times they're available. What I can say is if YOU are interested, I suggest you gather a database of everyone you've ever known, Last year we sent out a few hundred letters asking for 5$ each, and we got all the money we needed for our trip.

The trip will occur Mid may to Mid august and will be in KOLKATA (CALCUTTA), India.

Some tentative deadlines:

Sending me an "interest" email (stating your name, address, parish affiliation how much time you want to spend in India (1 month -3 months) and why you want to go to India with Faith or Bust. Also, what gifts do you bring and anything else you want to add?) ASAP
First Meeting NYC metro (general Info, and questions)By end of January
Subsequent Metro area meetingstwice a month
Local area meetingstwice a week
Commitment decisionEarly April or earlier if you're ready
Have all donation letters sentEarly April

Some notes...
  • I would like to meet everyone who wants to go, well before the first meeting, and I'm willing to travel to whereever you live (possibly even to California).
  • If you don't live in the NYC metro area, fear not! You can still go, we'll work it out, most things we can talk about on cell phones, email, or in person (I'll see what I can do to visit at least once).
  • I'm an idiot and a sinner, so bear with me and the mistakes I'm bound to make.
  • AND PLEASE EMAIL ME any questions you have, this will give me some things to blog about and things to gather together.
  • Also, the trip is limited to 12 people per month (some exceptions might be made if there are people staying longer).
  • The cost is probably going to be around 3000$ (regardless the length of your stay, the flight is the most expensive thing), 2/3rds or more of which you'll get by donations. I'm serious when I say you will get.
  • Remember: God provides, even when we doubt. Even when our own fears and darkness seem to obscure any light, His love is burning through all the emptiness.
  • Everyone going will have some area of responsibility (coordinating flights, things to bring, meetings, website/logo design, etc.)

God bless!

New Orleans

We drove through 9th ward looking at devastation of blocks and blocks of neighborhood. Houses in the middle of roads, cars flipped on top of others. Sheer unadulterated devastation
"wherever you are"
"what?"
"oh?" I realised no one would understand that phrase "I was thinking about a major disaster and wondering 'where do you start' it's overwhelming. But 'where do you start?' Wherever you are." You have to. You pick up the sledgehammer, the broom. you pick up the bodybags, the fridges. You pickup the rubble that obstructs your path. You pick it up. You pick up the phone and find out how your friends are. You pick it up. You pick up your pen and write a check. Where do you start? Wherever you are.
